# 03 Why robinhood chain

Robinhood Chain is an open, EVM-compatible Layer 2 focused on connecting traditional markets, crypto, and real-world assets.

Stock Tokens are a representative onchain asset on Robinhood Chain. Issued in ERC-20 form, they provide economic exposure linked to a reference stock or ETF and can be used in onchain trading, lending, and other applications.

Stock Tokens do not represent direct ownership of the underlying shares and do not grant shareholder rights in the underlying company. See the Robinhood Chain overview and Stock Tokens documentation.

Robinhood Chain provides core building blocks for RobinDog, including:

* Stock Tokens and crypto assets.
* The USDG stablecoin.
* Chainlink price data.
* Spot and perpetual trading infrastructure.
* An EVM smart contract environment.
* Account abstraction and gas sponsorship capabilities.
* Pons token launches and native onchain trading activity.

Robinhood Chain brings assets onchain. RobinDog brings the stories that move those assets to market.
